UPDATE July 2015: Ken and Hannah are now running Scottish walking, mountaineering and climbing courses for West Coast Mountain Guides.
So, with Christmas down south done, it was time to blow the cobwebs away. I was working for Mountain Motion today, and along with Rich, took a group of 14 students from Bristol Uni on a winter skills day around Coire na Ciste on Ben Nevis. The entire group proved to be a ‘well sorted’ bunch, absorbing all the information and being keen to get stuck in to their first taste of the Scottish mountains with it’s winter cloak well and truly on.
Visibility was quite poor today, however, from the glimpses we had of Carn Dearg Buttress, Trident Buttresses, the West Flank of Tower Ridge, and Minus Face it was quite clear that there is a lot of snow plastered onto the crags. A brief thaw and then refreeze will help clear and/or consolidate much of this snow, and with such a cycle forecasted for Sunday night, fortune could be on our side!
